In case you aren't from Michigan, there is a suburb of Detroit known as Royal Oak. It's a city of about 59,000 people and located just 2 miles north of Detroit. The story we will read today is about how the Holiday of Royal Oak Day came about in England, but as is seen on the city's website, is also the inspiration for how the city got it's name.
